Cholesterol & Lipids Test
/each

This test, like a standard lipid panel, measures your total cholesterol, calculated LDL, HDL, and triglycerides levels—it's a convenient way to monitor your biomarkers from the comfort of home. Knowing your numbers can help you identify ways to reduce risks for cardiovascular disease.
Measures total cholesterol, HDL, calculated LDL, and triglycerides
Finger prick sample
We measure your total cholesterol, HDL, calculated LDL, and triglyceride levels.
Total CholesterolCholesterol is necessary to make the cells in our body. We get it from two sources—our liver and from consuming foods from animals. Total cholesterol is the total pool of cholesterol in the body, which includes biomarkers explicitly measured like LDL, HDL, and triglycerides as well as other smaller lipid molecules.
Calculated LDLLow-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is generally considered the "bad cholesterol" as high blood concentrations of this form of cholesterol can result in a lipid disorder, increasing the risk of heart disease. LDL cholesterol can deposit in arteries and lead to a condition known as atherosclerosis. LDL can be calculated mathematically using triglycerides and total cholesterol values or measured directly—this test measures calculated LDL; however, the LDL value will not be able to be calculated if the total triglyceride concentration is greater than 400 mg/dL.
HDLHDL, high-density lipoprotein, is considered the "good cholesterol" because it carries cholesterol deposits away from arteries and back to the liver where it can be broken down and cleared from the body.
TriglyceridesTriglycerides are the primary form of fat in the blood. Excessive levels of triglycerides may lead to damage to organs such as the liver and pancreas and may increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.
If you have risk factors for heart disease, like weight gain, increased body fat, elevated cholesterol, or a personal or family history of heart disease, it’s a good idea to check on your cholesterol and lipids regularly.
The following symptoms, lifestyles, and family histories are also helpful indicators that it may be a good time to start testing:

- Elevated blood sugar
- Elevated cholesterol
Lifestyle
- Sedentary lifestyle
Body
- Obesity
Family or personal history
- Family history of heart disease or diabetes
- Personal history of heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes

I was preparing for my annual physical and new my lipid panel was not the best last year. I made changes over the year praying my results improved. As I was browsing in the pharmacy, I came upon the cholesterol kit. I read the info and asked myself, 'does this really work'? I didn't buy it. I rumina...ted whether I should just buy it and see for myself if I'm in a good range for my upcoming appointment. I went back and bought the last one! I took the test, mailed it and waited. I don't like waiting 😵💫 I remember logging into my account and the results were all green!! I did my happy dance. Then, I started second guessing. Are these real, are the ranges and controls the same as in a hospital/clinic lab? I did more research and was totally confident in my results! I started telling everybody about my experience: price factor, ease of use, comfort knowing the results are 'real' (LOL), turnaround time. After a year of worry and deprivation of certain foods/beverages and the fear of having to 'go on meds' (I'm physically fit and athletic- it's the family 'plaque' legacy that was handed down to me), I sent my results to my physician and asked if she would consider these for my upcoming visit. Doc said yes! I was so excited that I blasted the music and happily danced around my house with a glass of wine and a bowl of cheesy/caramel popcorn!!! It was good day!! Thank you! Thank you, Everly for bringing peace of mind! I went back and have purchased additional kits I will be giving as gifts.

Nice test, not processed quickly though
I seem to recall reading that once the test is received at the lab processing is 2-3 days. That is a case of promising something one cannot deliver, I waited a lot longer than that. Cost more than going to my doctor and took a lot longer to get results. The only benefit was not actually having to... go to the doctor's office.

Not Accurate

I had this test available at home and also got called in by my doctor for a blood draw version of the test. The blood draw lab test came back 30 pts different from the mail in version of this finger prick test. Another Dr confirmed only accurate results can be obtained from a vein not from a finger prick draw

This is so much easier than running to the lab for fasting blood work! And I can drink my coffee sooner too. Just a tad difficult getting enough blood out!

Great product to keep an eye on your cholesterol especially if you have uncooperative medical providers. I was told by a doctor to check my cholesterol often. GP was unwilling to help me out. Found Everlywell to be hassle-free, less expensive and more accessible for those with mobility issues!

Inaccurate Results

Reported cholesterol results were half of what I get through normal labs.
Merchant Response
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Generally speaking, there are a number of reasons that may explain any differences between any two sets of lab results—from differences between sample types (e.g., dried blood spot, saliva, venipuncture, etc.) and testing methodologies, to time or changes in lifestyle between testing. That said, accuracy is very important to us, and we'd like to escalate this and dig in a bit further to help you to figure this out. We've sent you an email to assist. Thank you again! 💚

FAQs
You have questions, we have answers
Having a combined cholesterol and lipids test is one of the most common ways to assess your overall heart health. High levels of cholesterol and lipids (especially LDL cholesterol and triglycerides) have been shown to increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease. Monitoring your blood cholesterol and controlling high cholesterol levels can be key to reducing your risk for these disorders. This mail-in cholesterol test kit evaluates the four key components of a lipid panel: total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), calculated low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglycerides.
Our cholesterol and lipids at-home lab test allows you to test wherever you're most comfortable (provided that you’re fasting). The mail-in test kit comes with easy-to-read instructions, lancets for pricking your finger, bandages, a sample collection cassette, and a prepaid shipping label for sending your blood sample to a certified lab.
To take this test:
Order the Everlywell kit online.
Once it arrives, register the kit online using the unique ID that comes inside the kit.
Use the lancet in the kit to prick your finger and follow the collection instructions inside the kit. "Please note that this test requires you to have fasted for 8 hours before taking the test.
Place your sample inside the sample pouch included with the kit. Then, put the sample pouch back inside the kit box.
Send the box back in the return envelope using the prepaid shipping label provided.
After the lab tests your sample, check your results on our secure, online platform.
After you take any at-home sample collection test, it is recommended that you discuss test results with your healthcare provider for appropriate follow-up. They can discuss your medical history and evaluate your risk for specific medical conditions.
If your results are outside of normal ranges, a member of our Care Team will reach out to you to answer any questions you may have.
According to guidelines from the CDC and USPTF, you should take a cholesterol test if you...
Have a family history of heart disease before age 50 in male relatives, or age 60 in female relatives
Have a personal history of coronary heart disease or non-coronary atherosclerosis (e.g. abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral artery disease, carotid artery stenosis)
Have a personal history of diabetes
Have a personal history of high blood pressure
Have a BMI > 30
Actively use tobacco products
Your cholesterol blood test results will contain your personal levels of total cholesterol, HDL, calculated LDL, and triglycerides, and whether they fall within a low, normal, or high range. We always encourage sharing results of any cholesterol tests with your healthcare provider.
Everlywell can provide suggestions to jumpstart a healthier lifestyle. As always, we encourage you to share your results with a healthcare provider who can provide specific guidance on medication and lifestyle changes.
Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in the blood that plays many important roles in the body, including helping to build hormones. Excessive or high cholesterol levels may result in fatty deposits in blood vessels (specifically, arteries) and lead to an increased risk of heart disease. High cholesterol may be managed with medications and/or lifestyle modifications (such as regular physical activity and dietary changes).
LDL cholesterol = low-density lipoprotein. This is often referred to as “bad cholesterol” because increased levels may lead to arterial plaque deposits. (Arteries are blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart and to the rest of the body. Plaque is a hardened mixture of fat, cholesterol, and other substances in the blood.) If unaddressed, these plaque deposits may lead to restricted blood flow throughout the body, which can in turn lead to an increased risk of heart attack or stroke. Having a high level of LDL cholesterol can increase this risk. There are many factors that can influence higher LDL levels, such as family history, genetics, and dietary habits.
HDL cholesterol = high-density lipoprotein. HDL is often referred to as the “good cholesterol” because it absorbs cholesterol and carries it back to the liver. This may in turn lower your risk of heart disease and stroke.
A high cholesterol level may indicate a higher risk of plaque buildup, heart disease, and high blood pressure. This isn’t always the case, though, since total cholesterol includes seemingly beneficial lipids such as HDL. So it’s best to talk with your healthcare provider to understand what high cholesterol may mean for your health. A lipid panel (as part of a broader evaluation and discussion with your healthcare provider) may help you better understand your current risk for cardiovascular events and what actions you may be able to take.
Total cholesterol refers to the combined amounts of different kinds of cholesterol in the body. Total cholesterol includes HDL, LDL, and some smaller cholesterol particles.
Triglycerides are the most common type of fat in the body. Your body uses triglycerides for fuel when it needs extra energy. But high triglyceride levels may pose a risk to your heart health and may lead to an increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and cardiovascular disease. That’s because triglycerides can contribute to plaque formation in arteries, which can lead to a narrowing of the arteries. Your heart then has to work harder to pump blood to your organs and other body parts. Taking a lipid panel, which often includes triglycerides (like our Cholesterol & Lipids test kit) can tell you if your triglyceride levels are elevated.
